Pat Livney: Living with CMT, Making an Impact
That’s me in the photo above, grimacing, wiped out, and having the time of my life doing the Spartan Obstacle Course Race. None of that would have been possible without the ankle brace I’m wearing. For people living with CMT, braces are a game changer, offering mobility, autonomy, and a sense of greater possibility. I’ve lived most of my life with CMT and spent the better part of it funding research for a cure and for braces and surgery for patients who can’t afford it.
I have neither time nor interest in feel-good stories that don’t make a difference. We are focused on providing resources for braces and surgery for CMT patients to make an IMMEDIATE impact. Not next year. Not further down the road. Now.
For people living with CMT, mobility is everything. Braces and surgery aren’t luxuries. They’re necessities that can mean the difference between independence and struggle. That’s why Cure CMT is laser-focused on funding braces and life-changing surgeries for those who need them most. We’re not here for empty promises or distant hopes. We’re here to make an immediate impact.
But we’re also thinking long-term. While we help people move today, we’re also investing in the future. Cure CMT is putting resources into venture capital, specifically in biotech and pharmaceutical innovations, to accelerate the search for real treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Research alone isn’t enough. We’re pushing for breakthroughs that will lead to tangible results for people with CMT.
Our three-tiered approach—funding braces, funding surgery, and investing in a cure—is built on action, not just awareness. Every dollar we raise goes directly toward these goals, ensuring that people with CMT have the support they need now while we work toward a future where no one must live with this disease.
CMT patients don’t have time to wait. And neither do we.
